Spreading Christmas Cheer: NAPVID’s 2024 Palliative Disbursement Brings Hope to People with Disabilities

The festive season was made brighter in Benin, Edo State, as the Network for the Advancement of People with Visible Disabilities (NAPVID) rolled out its 2024 Christmas palliative disbursement initiative. This year’s event, held on December 16th and 18th, marked a significant step forward in the organization’s ongoing mission to support Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in the community.

In a bid to alleviate the challenges faced by PWDs, NAPVID organized two key disbursement events, ensuring that vulnerable members of the community received much-needed support during the holiday season. On December 16th, beneficiaries from the visually impaired and physically challenged clusters were attended to, while the December 18th session catered to the hearing-impaired cluster.

During these events, each of the 200 beneficiaries received essential items that included:

  • A 10kg bag of rice

  • 3 liters of groundnut oil

  • Sachets of tomato paste

  • Seasoning cubes

In addition to these vital supplies, each recipient was granted a transportation allowance—a thoughtful gesture that not only eased their travel concerns but also underscored the organization’s commitment to holistic support.

Voices of Impact

The disbursement event was more than just a distribution of goods; it was an opportunity for community leaders and beneficiaries to share their stories and aspirations.

Reflecting on past initiatives, Mr. Omosah proudly noted that while 150 beneficiaries were assisted in 2023, the 2024 effort expanded its reach to 200 individuals despite resource constraints. His vision for the future is clear: to extend the support to more local government areas beyond Benin City in the coming years.

Evang. Lucky Imafidon, Chairman of the National Association of the Blind (Edo State Chapter), voiced the community’s gratitude on behalf of the visually impaired cluster. His commendation of NAPVID’s impactful initiative resonated deeply with many, reinforcing the notion that every act of kindness paves the way for a brighter future.

Similarly, Mr. Okunbor Daniel, representing the physically challenged cluster, expressed his appreciation for the organization’s professionalism and dedication. His remarks were filled with optimism and a strong belief that the achievements of 2024 would set the stage for even greater successes in 2025.

The highlight of the event was the moment when palliative items were distributed among the beneficiaries—a moment filled with hope, gratitude, and the promise of a better future. The heartfelt appreciation from the recipients spoke volumes about the positive impact of NAPVID’s efforts, making this Christmas season especially memorable for the community.

The success of the 2024 Christmas Palliative Disbursement reinforces NAPVID’s commitment to improving the lives of people with disabilities. As the organization looks forward to 2025, there is a palpable sense of optimism and determination. Future initiatives aim to broaden the reach even further, ensuring that more PWDs across various local government areas receive the support they need during challenging times.
